THERE’S no place like home for local goalkeeper Alex Palmer – literally!

The West Bromwich youngster, 18, is getting his first real taste of senior football on loan at his hometown club Harriers.

The former King Charles School student, who still lives in Spennells, has joined from the Baggies until January 2.

It’s a big step up for the youngster, who will be vying with former Brackley and Northampton custodian Dean Snedker for a regular first team spot as he moves into the senior game.

He said: “When I first learned that Kidderminster were interested on taking me on loan, I jumped at the chance.

“I was looking to go out on loan and when I met Gary Whild, I knew this was the right move for me.

“I still live in Spennells and joked I could ride my bike to work every day!

“My friends have always told me I should play for Harriers, so it’s great that my friends and family can come down and watch me play.”

Palmer was spotted aged just 15 playing for Worcester City and joined Albion’s youth academy. He signed his first professional deal last summer.

He also got his first taste of what it like to play in the Premier League when he was on the bench for the Black Country outfit’s defeat at Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in April.

His arrival at Aggborough was delayed by a slight injury early in pre-season but he recovered well and debuted in the 6-0 win over Evesham in the Worcestershire Senior Cup and was also a playing substitute in the 2-0 loss to Shrewsbury Town.

But he’s relishing the chance to work with coach and former England and Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Tim Flowers.

“To have someone who has done it all at the top of the game like Tim Flowers coaching me is fantastic, there is a lot I can learn from him.

“It is big step up from under-21 to senior football but playing at Harriers will only help me get better and I can’t wait."

“The guys have made me feel really welcome and I am looking forward to the challenge.
