KIDDERMINSTER Harriers are closing in on attacker James McQuilkin, revealed manager John Eustace.

The former Hereford forward has agreed to sign a deal when he returns from holiday.

McQuilkin, nicknamed 'Macca' was one of the club’s star performers as they ended their relegation season strongly and bagged six goals.

The news he is set to return will be welcomed by fans, who are eager to see how the new management team of Eustace and Matt Gardiner fair.

Eustace was quick to point out that he has been working hard talking to players.

He said: “James is on holiday at the moment but he’s agreed to sign when he comes back.

“He ended the season really strongly and is a quality player.

"At this stage we’re working hard talking to players and making sure we bring the right ones in.

“I know the type of players I want to bring into the club and when we’ve got them we will let everyone know.”

Derby-based striker Evan Garnett opted to join Alfreton instead of Kidderminster because of the close proximity of the East Midlands outfit.

Harriers are still waiting to hear back from Keith Lowe, Omari Patrick and Jared Hodgkiss.

Lowe told The Shuttle this week he was torn between his ‘heart’ – signing for Kidderminster – or going with his ‘head’ and accepting offers from clubs in the Vanarama National League.

Meanwhile, Hodgkiss could be close to putting pen to paper.

The right-back, who is one of the club’s highest earners, triggered an appearance clause in his contract and was offered a new deal.

Kelvin Langmead, who spent last season at the club on loan from Ebbsfleet, has been released by the Kent side but is currently not part of the new management team’s plans.

Eustace said he’d had no contact with Chasetown midfielder George Washbourne, who has been linked with the Aggborough outfit.

He also confirmed there had been no approaches from Football League clubs for highly-rated midfielder Ousmane Fane.

In recent weeks the French ball-winner, who is contracted until the end of next season, has been linked with Championship sides Birmingham City and Derby County.

“Ousmane is a very good young player and I am glad he’s getting linked to clubs because he’s doing well,” added the manager.

“We don’t want to lose him but I would love it if all our players were getting that sort of interest because it means they are playing well for Kidderminster.”
