KIDDERMINSTER Harriers bosses have issued a statement following "reckless" behaviour from a small number of fans at their first game of the season at Curzon Ashton.

Hundreds of fans made the trip to support the team for their first game in the National League North on Saturday (August 6), but a small number of Harriers fans set off pyrotechnics during the first half of the match.

In a statement on their website, Harriers bosses have condemned the "reckless" behaviour of those fans involved and are asking fans with any information about the incidents to get in touch.

A statement on the Harriers website said: "Kidderminster Harriers would like to thank fans who travelled to support the team at Saturday's first game of the season at Curzon Ashton.

"Unfortunately, however, a small number of individuals attending the game as Harriers fans acted in an extremely reckless manner with the use of pyrotechnics throughout the first half.

"This continues an extremely worrying trend.

"After the final game of last season at Southport witnessed more incidents of unsavoury supporter behaviour, the Football Association contacted the club informing them that they would be investigating the matter.

"Though no further action was taken against the club on that occasion, it was clear that any similar incidents in future would be viewed very dimly, and at the club’s own detriment.

"We were extremely disappointed, therefore, to see that this carry forward into our next competitive match this past weekend.

"The club wishes to stress that it will not tolerate antisocial or disruptive behaviour by its own supporters.

"Kidderminster Harriers’ fan-base has a long and distinguished history as being one of the most amiable in the country and we will not allow this reputation to be tarnished by the actions of a small minority.

"Therefore, we can confirm that the club is reviewing Saturday’s events with the view to taking further action against those involved.

"We would like to thank those supporters who have already contacted us with information and evidence and would ask anyone else with similar information to come forward immediately."

Bosses have stated that anyone identified as having been involved with the problems on Saturday - or any incidents that occur in the future - will be issued with a banning order, prohibiting them from attending any further Harriers matches.

The statement also said: "To the vast majority of our fan base who have always backed their team impeccably, and will continue to do so, we thank you for your continued support and look forward to welcoming you to Aggborough for Tuesday night’s first home game of the season against Brackley Town."
