MIDFIELDER Simon Russell has left Kidderminster Harriers for Blue Square Premier rivals York City.
After failing to agree a new deal with the Aggborough club, the 23-year-old has moved to a side closer to his family.
Russell was the club's longest serving player and joined Harriers in 2004. He scored 17 goals in 154 games for them.
"Simon has been a great servant to this football club over the last few years," said Yates.
"We were trying to tie something up with him here but unfortunately Simon's not been able to get what he was looking for and he's disappointed we haven't been able to work things out.
"But we knew of interest from York City and we've agreed to let him go back nearer to his home, which is something he wanted."
Russell had been offered a new deal at the end of last season but had not yet signed.
Defender Keith Lowe has joined Harriers on non-contract terms and is available for today's game at home to Altrincham.
Lowe, 22, can play in central defence and as a full-back. He also appeared for Harriers in pre-season friendlies against Hereford United and Plymouth Argyle.
He came through the ranks at Wolverhampton Wanderers and has also played for Port Vale, Brighton, Swansea, Burnley and Cheltenham.
