Yates wants repeat performance of super-showing

AFTER watching his side defeat Blue Square Premier leaders Oxford United 3-1, manager Mark Yates has called for his players to reproduce this excellent performance week-in week-out.

A brace for Robbie Matthews and a thunderbolt by Matthew Barnes-Homer recorded a deserved win over the U's.

So far this season, the Aggborough side have been excellent against the good sides but have dropped points against the likes of Forest Green Rovers and Eastbourne Borough but the manager believes this performance sets a new benchmark.

"This was a big game for us after losing to Cambridge and going out of the FA Cup," commented Yates.

"I thought individually and collectively we were brilliant.

"We don't want to get carried away with it, it's just three points.

"We've got to keep our high standards because at times we played some great football.

"It's important that the lads focus again.

"We've had a good two weeks and worked on one or things and the players take a lot of credit and I want more of the same please."

To a man, Harriers were outstanding against an Oxford side containing former players James Constable, Mark Creighton, Ryan Clarke and Adam Murray.

Clarke denied his former Salisbury team-mate Matthews a hat-trick with a fine penalty save in the 76th minute.

But Yates was full of praise for his hitmen, who are starting to forge a strong partnership.

He said: "I thought my front two were unplayable today, with their different attributes and they were aided by the running of my midfield players.

"Robbie has had a stop-start beginning to the season but he was fantastic.

"He trained really poorly yesterday but today I thought he was brilliant - he won headers, showed his pace, produced two clinical finishes and should have had a hat-trick, but all credit to Ryan Clarke for the save.

"I thought Barnesy was also excellent, his pace, hold up play and awareness were great."
