Skipper's vow to work 'day and night'

CAPTAIN Chris McPhee has promised to work 'day and night' to regain his form and make sure out of sorts Harriers get back to their best.

The talismanic midfielder has struggled to repeat the impressive performances from earlier in the season since returning from a three-match ban a fortnight ago.

His slump in form has also coincided with the Aggborough outfit's poor results against AFC Wimbledon and Tamworth.

He said: "We're very disappointed, performances of late haven't been as high a standard as recently.

"We've come off the back of two massive wins against Oxford and Kettering and got a decent result at Wrexham so we're scratching our heads to why standards have dropped.

He has also targeted Saturday's tough Blue Square Premier clash at second in the table Stevenage as a fixtures where Harriers can turn things around.

"At the moment we can't come up with any answers because we had the opportunity to put ourselves up there and we've dropped five points in two games, which you can't afford to do if you want to finish in the play-offs this season.

"The next couple of games for us are vital and we have to go to Stevenage Borough on Saturday and win, that's the bottom line for us.

"We've got some work to do this week to make sure we approach it right and forget the past."

The skipper is also at a loss to explain Harriers' hot and cold form, where they excelled against the likes of Kettering, Mansfield and Oxford but slipped up against Eastbourne and Tamworth.

"Against the bigger teams we're a threat and we do well, but that leaves us with the question of why we're not performing against the smaller sides," he commented.

"The teams we are expected to beat we tend to struggle against and I don't know if we get frustrated but I can't put my finger on it.

"My performances haven't been at all anywhere near what I am capable of and I'll be the first to admit that and I will work exceptionally hard on the training pitch, whether it's on my own or with the boss to make sure I get it right on a Saturday.

"It's not good enough and I am not happy with my performances. I am not contributing enough to the team and I will work day and night to get it right and hopefully the next game I will.

"The way the ban worked out was unfortunate and harsh to say the least as was the amount of time I was out.

"You can't mimic football, getting in amongst it in a high pressure situation and since I have come back my form has been up and down.

"I have to make sure I am working at my maximum and I will turn it around.

"I am an experienced professional and I know what's required of my and at the moment that's not good enough."
