Harriers fans Pete Kearns could not hide his delight at being named the club’s 12th man.

The lifelong supporter was given the honour of being included in the squad for the 2011-12 season in the Blue Square Bet Premier after winning a competition with the fans trust KHIST.

Kearns, who lives in Norfolk, has supported the club for 43 years and makes sure he gets to most of the Aggborough outfit's away games.

"I think number 12 is my natural position so I won't be appearing on the pitch," joked jubilant Kearns.

"I've been a fan since I was eight years old, my first game was in 1968 and I was hooked straight away.

"I feel really made up, it sounds like a small thing but for somebody who has followed the team for so long it really is very important.

"I follow the websites and come to very few home games, but I do go to a lot of away games and I am looking forward to trips to Lincoln and Cambridge."

Kearns can remember a host of impressive players who have graced the pitch for Harriers over the decades but has fond recollections of Northern Ireland international Paul McGee, who played for the club in the 1972-73 season.

He added: "One player who always stood out for me is Paul McGee in 1972, who turned the opposition inside out for a short while and went onto play for Queens Park Rangers and Northern Ireland."
