Williams: I fancy our chances

DEFENDER Mike Williams believes Harriers can pull off an FA Cup shock against Oldham Athletic in the first round tomorrow (3pm ko).

l The Welsh defender says the spirit and determination in the camp is good as Paul Dickov's League One Latics make their first visit to Aggborough.

He is sure Steve Burr's side can overcome the underdogs tags and spark a run in the competition he and the fans crave.

A run in the competition would also give the club a much-needed boost, as they try to escape the bottom four in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

"I've never been involved in an FA Cup run and it's about time we had one,” commented Williams.

"The fans and the club deserve one and I fancy our chances on Saturday.

"Oldham are from a higher level but the spirit in the squad has been really good.

"We were disappointed to concede a late goal and draw with Gateshead but a win over Oldham might just be the spark we are looking for."

Williams will be hoping to keep his place in the side after a return to the starting line-up at the weekend.

The former Wrexham man has had to be patient as Mickey Demetriou was ahead of him in the left-back position but he is aiming to seize his chance.

He said: "I came on as a substitute in the previous round against Grimsby and started against Gateshead so I am hoping to be picked on Saturday.

"I've had to be patient but I've been supporting the lads when not in the team."

Oldham will be without defensive rock Jean Yves-Mvoto after being sent-off against Crawley Town at the weekend, with James Tarkowski set to take his place.

But they have been given a boost with former Blackburn Rovers hitman Matt Derbyshire is eligible to play for the Latics.

Derbyshire is on-loan from Nottingham Forest and has been given permission to play for the East Midlands outfit.

The striker has formed a promising partnership with Jose Baxter, which has plundered nine goals.

Don't miss a minute of the Saturday's FA Cup action at Aggborough as Shuttle Online will provide team news, regular updates as well as a match report just after the full-time whistle.
