Harriers 2,  Wrexham 0

SENSATIONAL Harriers outplayed title-chasing Wrexham to earn a thoroughly deserved win at Aggborough on Saturday.

A first goal of the season for Jamille Matt and a late strike by Nathan Blissett ensured all three points and sent the Dragons packing.

The win was no less then they deserved as they had dominated their top five opponents for the entire game.

It was also enough to lift them to 11th in the Blue Square Bet Premier, the first time they have been in the top half this campaign.

With Matt looking bright and hungry for action,  the Dragons were pushed back by tenacious Harriers.

The hosts could have scored in the second minute when Lee Vaughan crossed from the right but with Matt flinging himself at the ball, keeper Joslain Mayebi saved well.

Anthony  Malbon had a good chance moments later, when he was set free by Josh Gowling but he went down under pressure from Chris Westwood with just the keeper to beat.

Home custodian Danny Lewis had little to do in the first 45 minutes but he was called into action when Joe Clarke fired in a swerving shot in the 10th which he dealt with comfortably.

Reds skipper Keith Briggs was posing a threat from distance and Mayebi had to tip over his strong rising effort.

Malbon came closest to opening the scoring from a Kyle Storer corner but his header crashed off the outside of the near post.

Matt was booed by the large contingent of away fans after going to ground after being tackled by former Harrier Martin Riley.

The striker then saw a header well saved by Mayebi, while on the stroke of half-time, Callum Gittings volleyed just off target.

The visitors came out looking more intent on attacking in the second half.

Striker Danny Wright had the away team's best chance when he rose to meet Neil Ashton's cross but Lewis saved his header superbly.

But Harriers soon took control again and took the lead in the 61st minute.

Wideman Marvin Johnson drove down the left wing and delivered a teasing low cross which Matt slid into meet, for his first goal since his return from a nine month exile because of issues with the UK Border Agency.

Johnson nearly added a second when a brilliant long range effort flew into the side netting.  But Wrexham were not out of the game yet and it needed a well-timed tackle by Chey Dunkley to stop Brett Ormerod.

Harriers had their tails up and the impressive Johnson hit the target after another strong run but Mayebi pushed the shot behind at his near post.

The over-worked Mayebi pulled off a fine save, scooping Johnson's fine effort away.

Dragons boss Andy Morrell brought himself on as the away side pushed for a lifeline.

But the home side kept on searching and got their second in the 90th minute.

Mickey Demetriou won the ball on the half way line and after a driving run, delivered a fine cross which Blissett headed home for his first goal at Aggborough.
