HARRIERS have been given a boost as much sought after striker Jamille Matt agreed to stay at the club until the end of the 2013-14 campaign.

The 23-year-old has agreed improved terms, which means he will be contracted to the club for another 18 months.

With seven goals scored in December Matt, who is player of the month, is the hottest property in non-league football and his signing on the dotted line will ensure that Harriers will get a sizeable fee if, as expected, a host of Football League clubs try to sign him.

With the interest in Matt only set to increase now that the transfer window is open, the chairman Mark Serrell is aware an extended deal will ensure the striker is not sold on the cheap.

"This is great new for the club and for Jamille," commented the chairman.

"It is safe to say he is the hottest property in non-league football since Jamie Vardy last year.

"Jamille is paying us back after the club backed him during a difficult time.

"I cannot guarantee that he won't be sold because there is such a lot of interest in him but this ensures if does go then the club will be properly financially rewarded.

"I've had chairmen calling me constantly and the interest is only going to increase now the transfer window is open.

"We believe that Jamille can play at the highest level and we want to help him but make sure we get something back in return."
