GARY Whild is hoping defensive duo Lee Vaughan and Chey Dunkley will sign new deals at Kidderminster Harriers.

The manager has said he's held positive talks with the highly-rated duo, who are both out of contract.

Harriers have continued their plans for the 2014-15 season in the Conference Premier by securing midfielders Jack Byrne and Callum Gittings on one-year deals.

“I think that Jack and Callum are approaching their fifth seasons, which is amazing loyalty,” said Whild. Callum’s had a very good season and Jack is someone who will only get better.

“I think we’ve started to see the best of him again because he’s a very talented player.

“The talks with Chey and Lee have been positive so hopefully something can be sorted with them soon.

“If look at the players we’ve got now, the spine of the team is very strong.”

Kidderminster have nine players already secured for next season, with the midfield duo joining Danny Lewis, Josh Gowling, Michael Gash, Kyle Storer, Josh O’Keefe, Anthony Malbon and Freddie Ladapo.

Gittings enjoyed his best ever campaign for the Aggborough outfit, scoring eight goals and producing a series of influential midfield displays.

Byrne has made 38 appearances this season but after several years of injury frustration he admits he is still looking for the form which made him a rising star for the Reds in 2010.

“When I joined four years ago I felt the appreciation of the fans and my performances were very good,” commented Byrne.

“I just need to get back to that stage but I’ve got faith in myself and I’ve got to get back to where I was.”

Harriers completed the season in seventh place in the Skrill Premier after an entertaining 1-1 draw at Halifax Town. Nathan Blissett marked an eye-catching display with his third goal of the season.

l Harriers have extended the deadline for their earlybird season tickets to 5pm on Friday. The club are hoping to have sold 500 by the time the period ends.
