LEFT-BACK Kevin Nicholson has joined Harriers on a non-contract deal.

The 33-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the side as a former Sheffield Wednesday, Notts County and Torquay United man.

The derby-born left-back has performed impressively in pre-season for Harriers and was a big part of the squad that picked up a draw and a win against Shrewsbury and Cheltenham Town over the last week or so.

Having been released by Torquay at the end of the last campaign after making more than 300 senior appearances there during a seven-year spell, Nicholson admits to being as hungry as he’s ever been to succeed.

He also revealed he’s been prepared to sign here at Aggborough effectively without even earning a normal wage, such is his desire to play games and help Harriers off to a strong start beginning at Lincoln City this weekend.

“The club has welcomed me in and it has given me what it can at this time – and that’s a platform to play,” he said.

“I’m not going to lose money on petrol and staying over every now and again but it is not really an issue for me.

“The issue at the moment is playing. I do want to stay here and if the manager had put a two-year contract in front of me today, I’d have signed it no questions asked because the set-up is right.

“There wouldn’t have been a discussion, but I know the limitations at the moment so we’re doing the best with what we’ve got and that is no problem.”
