MANAGER Gary Whild refuses to get carried away by Kidderminster Harriers’ storming start to the season.

The Aggborough outfit are sixth in the Vanarama Conference after Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Lincoln City and Tuesday’s 3-0 victory over Alfreton.

It’s their best beginning to a league campaign since the 2003-04 season, when they beat Mansfield and Darlington.

If they defeated Dartford at home on Saturday (3pm ko), it would be their strongest start since 1990-91, when they defeated Barrow 3-0, Bath City 3-2 and drew 3-3 with Fisher Athletic.

Whild said: “I am delighted with the way we have played in the first two games but it’s a bit early to be getting carried away.

“If we can get to the nine or ten game stage unbeaten that would be good.

"We’re expecting a tough game against Dartford. They’re a side who had a reprieve from relegation last season and will be looking to make sure they are not involved in a battle again.”

The manager also praised Kyle Storer, Kevin Nicholson and Jared Hodgkiss, who provided the ammunition for Chey Dunkley’s brace against Alfreton and Marvin Johnson’s goal.

He said: “Chey is a big strong lad who likes to attack the ball, but the quality of delivery was excellent as well.

“If we’ve got balls like that coming into the box then there’s every chance we will score goals.

“Kevin and Jared are experienced players and I have been very pleased with the way they have settled into the side.

“I was pleased for Nathan Blissett as well. He’s a nice lad who works very hard and is starting to come into his own."

Nicholson, 33, agreed to play for Harriers on non-contract terms last week as Whild's side Harriers were not in a position to offer him a permanent deal.

The left-back was eager to play for Kidderminster after two encouraging pre-season performances. While based in Torquay, he will travel up to train with Harriers twice a week.

Whild added: “The situation with Kevin is flexible, but he’s a very experienced player who was keen to play for us and we’re very pleased to have him here.”

Midfielder Josh O’Keefe is Harriers’ only injury doubt for Saturday, with a troublesome foot injury requiring a scan.
