GARY Whild is hoping Kidderminster Harriers can reward Kevin Nicholson’s efforts with a permanent deal.

The 34-year-old has made the left-back position his own since joining the club, with a series of solid displays at the heart of the back four, as well as impressive set piece deliveries.

Nicholson is currently on a non-contract deal because of the club’s financial situation, which was established earlier in the season.

But with finances stable, manager Whild is keen to tie up the former Torquay stalwart to a fixed contract.

He said: “Kevin has done brilliantly for us and he’s happy at the club.

“We’ve had on-going talks with him and we’re hoping to be able to offer him something.

“Obviously we have to be mindful of the club’s situation, but that is being looked at by people above me.”

Meanwhile, the Aggborough outfit will be looking to stretch their unbeaten three match run in the Vanarama Conference, when they tackle fifth-placed Halifax away on Saturday (3pm ko).

After beating Welling United 2-1 last Wednesday, Harriers followed it up with a stirring 3-3 draw atleaders Barnet on Saturday.

Kyle Storer will miss Saturday’s clash at the Shay Stadium because of a one-match suspension, after picking up five yellow cards.

Player/coach Josh Gowling is also set for a spell on the sidelines, as he recovers from a shoulder injury, which will see Jamie Grimes slot into central defence.

“Josh has hurt his shoulder and this kind of injury has an affect on a lot of other things, so he’s going to be out for a little while,” said Whild.

“He’s a fit lad so we’ll assess it next week. Luckily we’ve got Jamie, who played well against Barnet.”

Harriers have also been drawn at home to Eastleigh in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round on Saturday, October 25 (3pm ko).

Meanwhile, chairman Ken Rae believes Harriers offer value for money to fans, after the BBC revealed the findings of its Price of Football survey.

The famously large Aggborough pie, which costs £4.50, was once again the most expensive in all of England and Scotland.

The overall match day cost for a supporter, which combines the prices of the cheapest ticket, programme, pie and cup of tea was £23.

“The cheapest match day experience is £23 if you buy a ticket for the terracing in the North and South stands, so I do think that coming to watch Kidderminster Harriers is good value for money,” commented chairman Ken Rae.

“I do think we play entertaining football and while there have been some poor games the supporters have also got to see some exciting matches this season.

“We don’t set the price of the pies but they are a meal in themselves and are one of the best in the league.”
