JAMIE Grimes would love a run in the FA Trophy as Harriers assess their defensive options ahead of tomorrow's home clash against Altrincham.

The versatile former Swansea youngster is set to be Kidderminster's only recognised senior centre back for the second round encounter (3pm ko).

Manager Gary Whild has a number of selection worries with Josh Gowling still recovering from medial ligament damage and Jordan Tunnicliffe and Tyrone Williams cup-tied.

But the challenge won't faze Grimes, who has proven to be Harriers' 'Mr Consistent'.

After starting the season in midfield, Grimes he played in a back three and as cover for the central defensive partnership of Gowling and Chey Dunkley.

But Dunkley's departure for Oxford and Gowling's absence means the former Redditch United stopper is taking on more leadership duties playing alongside rookie Tunnicliffe.

He said: " I do think there's more to come from me.

"It's been really good to play in a number of positions but I am enjoying it at centre back.

"I work very closely with Mark Creighton and it is great to have someone of is experience guiding me.

"With Josh out I am taking the more senior role with Jordan coming into the team.

"The first two games went well but it gets harder the more you games you play and it's important to try and be vocal when the games gets tough.

"I am used to Josh Gowling and Chey Dunkley talking a lot and it's something I always try to do and will keep improving on."

Young forward Jamie Spencer is also cup-tied but Harriers were hopeful that new signing Keyon Refell's international clearance would come through in time.

Harriers, who are fifth in the Vanarama Conference, face an Altrincham side  who have lost two of their last eight games in all competitions.

Kidderminster went down 2-1 at Altrincham in November, despite taking the lead through Marvin Johnson.

Groundsman Gary Birch has also been working hard to make sure the pitch, which looked in a poor state on New Year's Day, will be ready.

Grimes added: "When we played Altrincham at their place we scored and then as a team we switched off and were punished for it.

"Obviously, Jordan Tunnicliffe is cup-tied and it's a shame that Tyrone also can't play because it would have been a good opportunity for him.

“The pitch makes it difficult, it’s a little bit over a leveller for some teams but from what I saw of Altrincham they like to pass the ball around.

“It reminds me of my days at Redditch United, I have bought longer spikes and I am still sliding around.”

Aman Verma (back) is also a doubt for tomorrow's game.
