GARY Whild believes it’s now or never for Kidderminster Harriers to step up their play-off push in the Vanarama Conference.

The Aggborough outfit welcome promotion rivals Woking, nicknamed the Cards, on Saturday (3pm ko) in a vital top eight clash.

Harriers, who have not played in the league since January 24, have slipped to eighth in the table but are just five points behind the top five with 14 matches left.

They warmed-up for this weekend’s tussle with a comfortable 2-0 win over Stourbridge at the War Memorial Ground.

Lee Hughes opened the scoring in his first game since returning to Harriers, before Danny Wright’s strike sealed a place in the Worcestershire Senior Cup final for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign. They will face either Redditch United or Worcester, who play next Tuesday.

“We’ve got a massive match against Woking on Saturday and the lads have been training really hard over the last couple of weeks but there is no substitute for competitive games,” said the Harriers boss.

“We’ve got a lot to play for with 14 games left but it’s important that we try and hit the ground running on Saturday.

“We put on a professional performance at Stourbridge to reach the final of the Worcestershire Senior Cup, which is brilliant.”

Josh Gowling played his first game since December 20 but Callum Gittings (dead leg) and Aaron Wildig (lost tooth) are injury doubts. Hughes, who looked sharp throughout, is set for his first league game in a Kidderminster shirt since the end of the 1996-97 season.

“It is important to be consistent and that’s what we’re trying to do,” added the manager.

“With the problems we’ve had this season as well as selling our three best players we’ve done well.

“If we had kept Chey Dunkley and Nathan Blissett we’d be in a play-off position now and possibly chasing down the likes of Barnet.

“But we’ve kept ourselves in touch, so let’s hope can kick on now.”

l Kidderminster's trip to Gateshead and home game against Eastleigh have been set for February 24 and March 10 respectively.
