CAPTAIN Josh Gowling accepted the blame for Harriers’ 2-0 defeat to Alftreton.

The reliable centre back was in a mix-up which allowed John Johnston to fired the home side against the run of play in the 11th minute.

Karl Hawley killed the game off in the 70th minute when his close range effort deflected off Jamie Grimes.

Harriers’ winless run was stretched to six games as they toiled on a poor pitch at the Impact Arena, which rapidly deteriorated.

He said: “The team performance I put down to myself.

“I am the driving force at the back and push the team on but I had an off day.

“I am not saying I am that important but I just feel because I was off we conceded those goals and on a day when I am a bit more focused we don’t concede them.

“I apologised to the lads at the end of the game, as well as the gaffer as well as Mark Creighton because I expect better of myself.”

Defeat leaves Harriers points off the play-offs spots, with Harriers having not scored in four games.

Callum Gittings and Lee Hughes had chances as Kidderminster dominated in the first ten minutes, only for Alfreton’s first goal to knock the wind out of their sailes.

“I thought we created and should have been in front,” lamented manager Whild.

“We let in a sloppy goal from our point of view if you are conceding goals and not taking chances there is only one outcome.

“We haven’t scored a goal for four games, which is very disappointing.”
