ASSISTANT manager Mark Creighton hailed Harriers' defensive solidity after yesterday's 1-1 draw against Birmingham City.

Trialist Adam Dawson had fired Kiddy ahead only for a late header from Shane Lowry to ensure it was honours even.

It was an encouraging display by the hosts, who saw new signings Kelvin Langmead, Lathaniel Rowe-Turner and Joe Clarke all catch the eye.

Dawson and fellow hopeful Dean Snedeker also did well, in front of a 2,801 crowd.

While Harriers made a handful of substitutions, City manager Gary Rowett fielded two completely different teams in each half.

"I thought out of possession our shape was excellent and we frustrated two really good Blues teams," said Creighton.

"It is a credit to our boys they played 75 minutes against  two completely different teams.

"It didn't look like we were lacking in fitness, that tells Tim Flowers and myself we are doing the right things."

"I thought Dean Snedeker was outstanding, the way he swept up beyond the back four was good because Birmingham did try and play it long late on.

"He came out and swept up and he did that magnificently. He is certainly one we are excited about."

With Harriers working on a small budget, Creighton admitted was unsure if the club could afford to sign the likes of Dawson and Snedeker.

With Alex Palmer still injured, although expected back in a fortnight, Harriers require a goalkeeper.

He added: "We haven't got any money, it is well known we are getting to the point we are asking for favours.

"Gary Rowett has told us to come down and have a look at what they have got and help us out.

"He knows that we do the right thing. He is going to want some of his younger squad members to come and join in at National League level because it is better than under-21 level."
