JOE Clarke is determined to be Harriers’ go-to guy for getting goals from midfield this season, writes Chris Oldnall.

The 27 year-old newcomer has quickly settled into life at Aggborough and can’t wait to start hitting the target.

Clarke signed for Harriers from National League rivals Wrexham during the summer and is relishing the opportunity to helping up his side’s goals tally.

He said: “I’ve averaged about seven goals a season for the last four or five seasons, so I’ll be looking to hit that 10 mark.

“It would be nice to get a few more. I’ve scored a couple of good goals in my time, so maybe I’ll get a few more tap-ins and mix it up a bit. Perhaps get in the box and get my head on a few things.”

Clarke enjoys strutting his stuff in the centre of midfield, but isn’t fazed about what role he’s given as long as he’s in the thick of the action. “I don’t mind holding, getting forward or a bit of both. It’s where ever the gaffer wants to put me.”

His arrival is a big boost for Kidderminster boss Gary Whild, particularly in view of the club’s severely restricted budget.

Clark said: “A lot has gone on over the past 12 months which is done with now. There’s obviously a new group and a lot of new players, so it’s a fresh start for Kidderminster.

“I was aware of the financial problems and it was brought up when I spoke to the gaffer, but they have sorted all that out. The chairman has come in and done a good job, but there’s a lot more work to do. It doesn’t stop there.

“They have come out and said they’ve cut the budget and things like that, but it was important for my game to be local to home.

“Even though it was great playing for Wrexham the travelling did get to me a bit at times. I think it will help my game and help my legs and body to not do as many miles. I’ve worked with the gaffer before at Redditch and played with Creights (assistant manager Mark Creighton) so it was a no-brainer.”
