CAPTAIN Jared Hodgkiss says Kidderminster Harriers’ squad are playing for their futures ahead of Saturday’s crunch clash against Welling at Aggborough.

With the club bottom of the Vanarama National League after a 13-game winless run, the Reds face another opportunity to bag their first three points of the season.

Welling are 18th in the table but come to Wyre Forest on the back of a three- game winning streak which has pro - pelled them out of the drop zone.

While still early days, reliable right-back Hodgkiss is well aware of the impact of relegation for the full-time club.

He said: “All we can do is focus on Welling and when we get our first win it will be a weight off our shoulders.

“We played well for 45 minutes against Barrow and if we can do that for longer the win will come.

“With the younger players I always look back at when I was a rookie.

“Some respond to an arm around the shoulder, while others need a kick up the backside.

“After the Lincoln defeat I had a bit of a rant in the dressing room.

“There is a lot at stake and it’s about our livelihoods. I am very lucky to be a professional footballer and if Harriers were to be relegated then it would have a huge impact on the club.”

Harriers continue their search for a new man at the helm after coach Gary Whild and Tim Flowers left last week.

With little free cash in the pot, they wish to bring in a head coach with a track record of working with younger players as a long-term appointment.

Chairman Rod Brown had set a dead - line for Saturday but the search looks set to be extended to next week.

Former Coventry City coach Neil McFarlane is assisting Colin Gordon in his first team duties in the short-term.

Chairman Rod Brown said: “It is vitally important for the long-term future of the club that we get this right, and in that sense we are in no hurry.

“We are happy that the team is in good hands in the immediate short- term as Colin Gordon and the staff have been working hard and the players have responded to that.”

Former academy boss Steve Guinan has ruled himself out of the job and revealed he is enjoying his coaching role at the PFA.
