KIDDERMINSTER Harriers will be raising awareness of the Poppy Appeal during their home fixture this weekend, in conjunction with the Vanarama National League and the Royal British Legion.

All National League clubs will be working in unison with their local branch of the RBL to oversee collections held at football grounds across the country.

This will be supplemented through a unique partnership, whereby a specially produced captain’s armbands will be worn at all matches to be placed in the national league on Saturday (November 14) – including Harrier’s home fixture against at Aldershot Town at Aggborough Stadium.

As an additional move of support, anyone producing military personnel ID at the Harriers game on Saturday will be able to gain admission at the reduced price of £10 anywhere within the stadium – and this will apply to all home and away supporters.

After the match, all National League clubs involved will make each armband available for auction, which it is hoped an additional £10,000 can be raised to supplement those amounts raised through ground collections and any other individual local arrangements around Remembrance Day.

Matt Paddock, communications manager at the Harriers, said: "Everyone at the club is fully behind this fantastic idea from the National League to commemorate those who have given so much, and we are honoured to be working with them and the Royal British Legion ahead of Saturday's game.

"We pride ourselves on being a community football club and so to stand by our local community this weekend and pay our respects will be truly special."

Brian Barwick, chairman of the National League, said: “Each and every one of our member clubs already work within their communities in many varied ways, so we see this partnership as an extension of supplementing the sterling work many do.

“We are pleased to be able to work together to enhance the awareness of the Poppy Appeal.”

Claire Rowcliffe, head of regional fundraising with the Royal British Legion, said: “Having the support of the National League for this year’s Poppy Appeal means a lot.

“Funds raised will help us to continue providing vital support to serving individuals, those who are moving on or have moved back to civilian life, and importantly, their families too.”
