HARRIERS failed to build on their success over Woking as they were soundly beaten on Tuesday night against Steve Burr's Chester.

Harriers boss Dave Hockaday made two changes to the starting line-up for this game on the back of a 1-0 win over Woking some ten days earlier.

Those changes ensured the team started this game as they ended the last, with Matt Young drafted in at full-back to replace Lathaniel Rowe-Turner, while Dino Fazlic was handed a first start of the season after an impressive cameo against the Cards.

There were further changes on the bench, namely the drafting in of two new signings; winger James McQuilkin and striker George Obosu who both had completed deals to join the club just hours previously.

Tremendously blustery conditions greeted the two teams and that wind played a part early on, Harriers caught out against the bounce of the ball as Chester's Ross Hannah picked it up and drove at goal, Dean Snedker equal to it as he got a strong parry to the effort to keep it out.

There was an early response from the visitors when Murphy fired an effort wide, but on the quarter hour, Hannah had his head in his hands after missing the target from just six yards; following up on Jonny Hunt's shot that was palmed into his path.

Ten minutes before the break, the lively Jordan Murphy's flicked effort off the visitors' first corner of the night kept goalkeeper Worsnop's reactions sharp, before Harriers then strode ahead after Kelvin Langmead's composed finish capped off a fine team move involving Ben Whitfield and Matthew Barnes-Homer.

That sent the Harriers fans wild but, the delight was short-lived as Chester struck level just four minutes later, Ross Hannah finally getting his goal as he drilled the ball beyond Snedker and in to the net, much to the dismay of visiting players who appealed to the referee, who'd seemingly missed Kyle Howkins going down with a head injury.

The second half started in blistering style for the home side and within 30 seconds they were ahead.

Dino Fazlic was caught napping on the ball, and made to pay for it by Hannah who robbed him of it before playing a simple pass to Rooney who, entering the penalty area, calmly slotted past Snedker.

Past the hour, Chester remained in firm control of the game and to that point always looked the more likely to add another goal as Harriers were forced in to some serious defending.

They were able to pick and choose when they hit Harriers on the break and, with Hannah's second goal of the night, the hosts put the game to bed inside the final part of the contest. Keeper Dean Snedker did well to save an initial Rooney effort, but helpless to keep out the hit-man's follow-up.
