MATTHEW Barnes-Homer says the chance to return to Kidderminster Harriers was too good to turn down.

The 29-year-old re-joined the Aggborough outfit a fortnight ago on-loan from Aldershot and made an immediate impact when he inspired them to their first win of the season against Woking a fortnight ago.

Having previously scored 34 goals over three years in his first spell, the striker’s second coming has raised hopes he can help the Reds escape the Vanarama National League’s bottom.

The striker is not available for tomorrow’s home clash against Aldershot (3pm ko) as part of his loan deal from the Hampshire outfit.

Barnes-Homer joined Aldershot in the summer but has yet to open his account this season.

He said: “The Aldershot manager didn’t really want me to go on-loan to a club in the National League but when I learned I Harriers wanted me, I had a chat and he agreed to it.

“It made sense to come to here, in some ways it’s like coming home.

“I knew head coach Dave Hockaday really well after a spell at Forest Green Rovers and we had built up a good relationship.”

While Harriers were brought down to Earth by their midweek loss to Chester, they face a Shots side who suffered their first loss in seven games against Lincoln on Wednesday.

Tomorrow’s visitors to Aggborough earned an FA Cup replay against SkyBet League One side Bradford after a 0-0 draw.

“Aldershot have been on a very good run and had an excellent result against Bradford in the FA Cup,” said the hitman.

“But knowing Dave Hockaday as I do, he will have watched them several times and will have the team ready.”

Midfielder Luke Maxwell missed Tuesday’s game while Hockaday was keen to add one or two new faces if possible.

Jordan Tunnicliffe is set for a lengthy spell on the side lines after injuring his hamstring.

For Aldershot, Jack Saville limped off in stoppage time on Wednesday with a hamstring problem, so must be a doubt for the game on Saturday.

Barnes-Homer added: “I have been made very welcome by the lads and it’s great to be here.

“I am 29-year-old now and have played some very big clubs at this level, so I would like to think I can help the younger players while I am here.

“The club are in a tricky situation but I back Dave to get them out of it.”
