Woking 1, Harriers 1

JAMES McQuilkin bagged a second half leveller as Harriers battled from behind to earn a deserved point at Woking.

The Reds had been trailing to Dan Carr's 14th minute effort but the energetic midfield man made it three goals in two matches.

Bottom of the table Harriers reduced the gap to safety in the Vanarama National League to ten points.

Harriers made one change from the side that won 2-1 at Lincoln last week.

After his double goal-scoring efforts at Lincoln last week, McQuilkin was handed a started and of Evan Garnett.

Woking welcomed back Brian Saah and Bruno Andrade from spells out injured.

In windy, rain lashed conditions, both teams struggled with the weather but it was the Cards who opened the scoring in the 14th minute with the game's first real chance.

On-loan Cambridge man Carr was unmarked when Keiron Murtagh flicked on Chris Arthur's cross and the striker took a touch before beating keeper Max O'Leary with a left-footed shot.

Car should have made it 2-0 two minutes later but bundled his close range effort wide after a fine run from right back Jake Caprice.

But Harriers worked their way back into the game and both Ben Whitfield and Arthur Gnahoua tested keeper Jake Cole in the 23rd minute.

Whitfield then looped a header over the bar after a junking cross and good cross from left-back Lewis Kinsella.

But Harriers suffered a setback just before the half-time break when Gnahoua succumbed to a persistent ankle problem and was replaced by Garnett.

McQuilkin surged forward at the start of the second half and saw an effort deflect off team-mate Whitfield and roll wide.

The away side the won three corners in a row as they applied good pressure.

The home side replied well and created two good chances near the hour mark and Lewis Kinsella headed a Joey Jones off the line from a corner.

Moments later, keeper O'Leary rushed out to block the on-rushing Josh Goddard's effort.

Harriers boss Colin Gordon made changes when he threw in Ngwatala and Jordan Jones for Luke Maxwell and Jared Hodgkiss.

Woking nearly added a second in the 64th minute when Carr flashed a low drive wide of O'Leary's left hand post.

Home midfielder Matt Butcher then saw a long range effort hit the woodwork.

But Harriers battled back, with all their best chances falling to Whitfield.

The on-loan Bournemouth man had a fine chance to level in the 75th minute after being found by Garnett but from 12-yards out he was denied by Cole.

But McQuilkn lashed home a fine leveller in the driving rain.

Jones had made a fine tackle to deny Garnett but as the ball broke to the midfielder, he smashed the ball into the back of the net.

The goal set up a grandstand finish as both teams searched for a winner.

Woking nearly win the game in the 85th minute when substitute Joe Quigley rounded O'Leary but as he went wide and hesitated, Jones was able to get back and block his shot.

McQuilkin then curled an effort over the bar in time added on as an enthralling game ended honours even.
