KIDDERMINSTER Harriers and Hereford have dedicated Tuesday’s friendly derby clash at Aggborough will be dedicated to the memory of much-loved fans trust pioneer Steve Millington.

The clash, which is hoped will become an annual feature of pre-season, will be named the Steve Millington Trophy.

Millington was a highly successful chairman of Kidderminster Harriers Fans Trust (KHIST), earning the respect of supporters and the club, before passing away in 2013 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

He also helped to advise in the set-up of Hereford’s own supporters group.

Harriers’ Managing Director Dave Pountney, also a former KHIST Chairman, commented: “I’m sure the two teams will share a footballing rivalry forever more – that’s not something we want to change.

“But it was felt that the relationship between the two sets of fans has changed over the last few years and that this should be celebrated.

“I will always remember being with Steve and attending initial meetings with Hereford fans and discussing the formation of their Trust and how we could help.

“The sight of hundreds of Hereford fans at Aggborough for our game against Welling live on BT Sport is something many of us will never forget and that, in many respects, is part of Steve’s legacy.”

Bulls Chairman Jon Hale added: “This is a fantastic idea and one I’m sure both sets of supporters will embrace.

“Some things are more important than what happens in 90 minutes on the pitch and this is a celebration of not only the life of someone like Steve but also the camaraderie of football fans as a whole.

"We will never forget how Kidderminster held out their hand to help us.”
