PREVIEW: Harriers v Macclesfield

Steve Burr will be hoping to get one over his former club. Steve Burr will be hoping to get one over his former club.

THERE will be no room for sentiment for manager Steve Burr as Harriers take on his former club Macclesfield Town in search of their first home win of the season tomorrow.

The Aggborough outfit will be hoping Tuesday’s 3-1 victory at Cambridge, their first win of the Blue Square Bet Premier campaign, will provide the launch pad in a frustrating season.

Standing in their way is a Macclesfield Town side who have adjusted fairly well to life in the Conference following their relegation from the Football League last summer.

Burr, who helped guide them into the promised land of the League as a prolific striker, admits he feels a tinge of sadness that his former club have slipped back into the non-league but is determined Harriers make it back-to-back wins.

Harriers face a Macclesfield side who have a host of players with plenty of experience in the Conference including former hitmanMatthew Barnes-Homer, Jack Mackreth, Lance Cronin and John-Paul Kissock.

“I still know one or two people there and it’s sad to see them in the Conference after they put in so much effort to get into the Football League,” commented Burr.

“But they’ve got a decent budget down there and they’ve still got good players such as Lance Cronin and Matthew Barnes-Homer, so they will be no pushover.”

This will be the first time Burr has managed a team against his former club but he has came up against them as a player.

After joining Hednesford for £15,000 he played twice against them, losing 3-1 in the Conference but beating them in the Staffordshire Senior Cup.

Lee Vaughan has a minor knock ahead of the game but apart from long term injuries to Jack Byrne and Kyle Storer, there are no new worries. New signing Adam Watkins, who signed from Luton on a month’s loan yesterday, could make his debut.

Harriers are still stuck in the bottom four and are desperate to make it seven games unbeaten with three precious points.

Fans unable make the game can keep up with all the action on Saturday afternoon with Shuttle Online’s live bog tomorrow.

Sports Editor Peter McKinney will have team news before the 3pm kick-off and the action as it unfolds.
