Hitman wants two-year deal
 |
| Looking for stability: Iyseden Christie. |
HITMAN Iyseden Christie wants a new two-year deal to keep on firing in the goals for Kidderminster Harriers (listen to interview) .
The 31-year-old striker is out of contract with the Aggborough club at the end of the current Blue Square Premier campaign and is in talks with manager Mark Yates.
Christie, who has bagged 18 goals this season, wants long-term stability but the two parties have yet to reach an agreement.
If talks break down then there is the danger that the former Rochdale and Mansfield man could go to another club as a free agent.
"Ideally I'd like a two-year contract or at least a clause that says if I play so many games then the next season is guaranteed, but that's a sticking point at the moment," said Christie.
"I don't feel it's too much to ask to be offered a two-year contract.
"I wouldn't want to leave just because of the length of contract but at the end of the day I have to look after myself and my family."
Talks between the striker and the club are still on going, as Yates makes his plans for next season and decides which players he wants to keep at the club.
The manager will sit down and talk with all of his squad's out of contract players after Saturday's final league clash away at Woking (5.15pm kick-off).
The manager has a number of issues to sort about, including Christie's contract, such as the future of striker Justin Richards, who is currently on-loan at Oxford United and is contracted to Harriers for another season.
Yates would also like to keep on-loan Yeovil Town striker Darryl Knights, who scored a brace in Tuesday night's 4-1 win over Burton Albion, Harriers' final league home game of the season.
"I have spoken to Iyseden and I know what he wants but he has not come back to me yet so we are still waiting," said Yates.
"We have spoken to a few players about contracts but things will become clearer over the next few weeks.
"We have to make sure we keep the players we want here and then look at the targets we want to bring in.
"We have a smaller budget to play with so there's no bottomless pit of money, but there is some scope to bring in the targets we want."
One player who has already parted ways with the club is former Republic or Ireland, Birmingham City and Derby defender Jeff Kenna, who left to become manager of Eircom Premier League side Galway United this week.
The 37-year-old joined Harriers in the summer of 2006 and became an integral part of the team. He was also first player to play at the new and old Wembley Stadiums in last May's FA Trophy Final.
Yates said: "Jeff came down from a much higher level and just rolled his sleeves up and got on with the job.
"He did a great job here and I've known that he was interested in becoming a manager for some while. He's got a hard job ahead but best of luck."
The injured trio of Alex Jeannin, Michael Wylde and Jake Moult are all set to have recovered from illness and injury for Saturday's final game of the season.
