Determined: Gavin Hurren.

DEFENDER Gavin Hurren still has ambitions of playing in the football league after being released by Kidderminster Harriers.

The 22-year-old believes three years at Harriers has made him a better player and he is determined to continue his career elsewhere.

He played 101 times for the club since joining from Nottingham Forest in the summer and 2005 and scored eight goals.

"Ideally I would like to sign for a club in the Blue Square Premier or League Two," said Hurren.

"It would be great to come back to Aggborough with a club next season and see everyone."

Hurren was a stalwart of the first team for most of his time and played a big part as Harriers booked a place in the FA Trophy Final at the new Wembley against Stevenage Borough in May 2007, which they lost 3-2.

This season he struggled to nail down a regular first team spot in either midfield or defence but again played an important role as Harriers ended a disappointing season in the Blue Square Premier by carving out a seven-game unbeaten run.

Hurren played the last 12 games and forged an impressive central defensive partnership with captain Mark Creighton.

However, after talking to manager Mark Yates this week, it became clear he would have to look for a new club.

"I sat down and spoke to the manager and he decided it was time for me to move on," said Hurren.

"I have really enjoyed my time at Harriers, I feel that I have learned a lot and matured into a better player."

"It has been a difficult season for me but I felt I had done really well in the last few months.

"I think the manager is being quite ruthless. He moved on a lot of players in January and is continuing that in the summer."
