Clements powers to world title

POWERLIFTING: Dave Clements set a new world record at the British Powerlifting Benchpress and Deadlift Championships.

The 65-year-old, a member of Kidderminster's Unique Fitness gym, lifted 150 kilograms in the squat, benchpressed 125kg and deadlifted 200kg in the under-90kg section.

Unique Fitness's Louise Price, 22, set a new world record when she benchpressed 80.5kg and and deadlifted 150kg, as well as picking up 120kg in the squad section to win the under-75kg class.

Tony Brown moved up to the 46kg section and broke the European record when he benchpressed 237.5kg and just missed a world record.

Junior Andy Beeston won his under-82.5kg class when he lifted 245kg in the squat, benchpressed 160kg and deadlifted 240kg.

Powerlifters from Unique Fitness head to the European Championships in Germany between June 26 and 29.
