CRICKET: County fans at Chester Road witnessed some big hitting as Worcestershire drew with Loughborough UCCE in well-contested three-day game at Kidderminster Victoria's ground last week.

A strong Worcestershire side were in control for most the match but a defiant performance with the bat by the university side ensured it was honours even.

The Royals side contained senior players such as Gareth Batty and also blooded young stars Mehraj Ahmed and Holland's Alexei Kervezee.

Moeen Ali (92) and Kervezee (71) were Worcestershire's top scorers in the first innings as they finished on 334-5.

Batty was also finding the wicket at Chester Road to his liking, taking five wickets as Loughborough crumbled to 194 all out and handed Worcestershire a lead of 230 runs.

Openers Daryl Mitchell (65) and Stephen Moore (144) set about handing the county side an insurmountable lead as they declared on 219-1 in the 42nd over.

But Loughborough hit back and Paul Borrington's 102 not out steered the visitors to a defiant 239-5 in 67 overs to ensure the points were shared.
