Joyce bags Swifts winner
CARETAKER manager Paul Davies took a huge stride towards landing the Stourport job on a permanent basis after his side ran out 2-1 winners at home to Bedworth United.
A goal in each half secured three vital points but the nature of the victory also boosted Davies' standing in the management stakes.
Youngsters Adam Harris and Chris McComiskey were both handed their chances in a three-man defence while teenage striker Darren Andrews chipped in with the opening goal.
The breakthrough came on 38 minutes. Skipper Wes Joyce sent a low cross into the area and when Bedworth keeper Adam Kemp slipped, Andrews was on hand to stroke the ball into the net.
The visitors had chances to level either side of the break with Liam O'Neill firing wide moments before the interval while Kinder put another effort into the hoardings at the start of the second period.
Stourport held out though and doubled their lead on 63 minutes when Joyce fired home from inside the area after his initial effort was charged down.
This second goal brought the visitors to life and it needed a fine save from Stourport keeper Steve Parker to keep out a Danny Pitham effort.
Bedworth reduced the arrears on 73 minutes when Gilbert Cummings headed in a Simeon Williams corner but Ben Porter and Adam Kinder both missed chances to grab a draw in the closing stages as Swifts tired.
Swifts: Parker 6, Smith 7, Robinson 6, STAMPS 8, Harris 7, McComiskey 7, Colwell 6, Halion 6, Joyce 7, Frost 6 (Webb 83), Andrews 7 (Lavery 75). Subs (not used): Burgess, Upton, Knight.
