Swifts shattered by Glassboys pair

JUST days after being handed the manager's job on a permanent basis, Paul Davies could only look on in disbelief as his Stourport Swifts side crashed to a sobering 6-1 home defeat to neighbours Stourbridge.

His defenders had no answer to strike pair Mark Bellingham and Sam Rock who netted five of the goals between them as the visitors romped into a five-goal lead inside the opening 33 minutes.

There were just seven minutes on the clock when Rock rifled in the opener, Leon Broadhurst adding a second on 21 minutes with a looping header that sailed over Steve Parker in the Stourport goal.

Swifts could have been on level terms when Craig Marshall raced through only for Stourbridge keeper Lewis Solly to deny him.

Bellingham bagged his first of the afternoon on 25 minutes before Rock struck to make it 4-0 on the half-hour as he latched on to a defence-splitting pass from Redditch United loanee Damian Whitcombe.

With the home side on the ropes, Bellingham showed his prowess for goal to make it 5-0 before Swifts skipper Wes Joyce drilled in a consolation penalty just before the break following a handball by Rock.

The second half was easier to stomach for the home fans as Stourbridge struck just once - Bellingham completing his hat-trick five minutes from time.

Swifts: Parker 5, SMITH 7, Robinson 6, Stamps 6, Harris 6, McComisky 6, Colwell 5, Halion 5, Joyce 6 (Broadhurst 62, 5), Marshall 5 (Lavery 66, 5), Upton 5 (Webb 46, 6). Subs (not used): Andrews, Frost.
