Battling Swifts cut deep by Glassboys

Stourbridge 3
Stourport Swifts 1

STOURPORT Swifts suffered a second defeat in a row against the Glassboys at the Memorial Ground on Tuesday night.

Swifts produced a hard working performance and more than matched the home side, but were shot down by two second half goals.

Defeat was a blow for Swifts' new manager, Paul Davies, who has watched his side lose 6-1 and 3-1 to Stourbridge in the space of four days since taking on the manager's job at Walshes Meadow permanently.

It was the visitors who opened the scoring in the sixth minute, when striker Craig Marshall latched onto a throw-in and found Darren Andrews on the edge of the box.

The winger made no mistake by rifling a low shot beyond diving keeper Lewis Solly.

But the home side were finding gaps in Swifts' defence and Leon Broadhurst should have slotted home Mark Bellingham's ball across the box, but just missed it when stretching.

Stourbridge goal-machine Mark Bellingham grabbed the equaliser in the 25th minute when he latched onto Sam Rock's through ball and stroked it between keeper Steve Parker's legs.

Stourport turned up a gear and Solly made a great dive to push away away Mark James' volley in the 32nd minute.

The keeper denied Swifts again three minutes later when Adam Robinson delivered a pin-point deep cross that Ryan Broadhurst headed down, but Solly was alert to the danger.

At the other end Bellingham saw goal-bound efforts blocked by Robinson and Adam Blake.

But Stourbridge took the lead in the 50th minute when Swifts conceded a soft goal.

Parker fouled Andy Wells just out side the box and then allowed Damian Whitcombe's low free-kick to beat him at the near post.

Swifts kept plugging away and never gave up but could not find the final ball to trouble Stourbridge.

Bellingham grabbed Stourbridge's third goal in the 86th minute to give the game a scoreline that did little to tell the whole story.

Swifts: Parker 6; Smith 7; Robinson 6; Stamps 6; McComisky 6; Blake 6; Colwell 6; Frost 6 (Webb, 70); Marshall (R Broadhurst, 6, 25); Lavery 5; Andrews 6.

Stourbridge: Solly; Wells (Nichols, 75); Bellingham; Rock; James; Bennett (Dyson, 69); Slater; L Broadhurst; Hadley; Mahon; Whitcombe.
