County rivals come out on top

Stourport Swifts crashed to a 4-1 defeat at home to Worcestershire neighbours Evesham United despite opening the scoring.

There were just 17 minutes on the clock when the Walshes Meadow side struck the opener, midfielder Rik Halion finding the back of the net.

But the lead lasted just nine minutes before Evesham restored parity, Mark Owen levelling from the penalty spot after Andy Smith had handled inside the area.

The goal lifted the visitors and they bagged two more before the break through Danny Scheppel. He curled in a free-kick beyond keeper Steve Parker on 28 minutes and then added to Stourport's misery with another well-taken goal five minutes later.

To add to Swifts' woes, Chris McComisky was sent off just before half-time, collecting a straight red following his trip on Danny Lennon as the nippy striker looked to break clear.

Even though they were a player down, the home side kept Evesham out until the latter stages of the game when Lennon slotted home his side's fourth following good work from Owen eight minutes from time.

Stourport will be hoping to end a six match winless league run when they head to Barton Rovers on Saturday.

Swifts: Parker 5, Smith 6, Robinson 6, Upton 5 (Marshall 64, 5), Blake 6, McComisky 6, Colwell 6, Halion 6, Broadhurst 5, Webb 6, ANDREWS 7 (Stamps 84). Subs (not used): Lavery, Jay, Frost.
