Own goal misery
Stourport Swifts 0
Leamington 1
A RICHIE Colwell own goal handed Leamington the spoils and saw them regain their place at the top of the table.
But the scoreline flattered Swifts who would have suffered a far heavier defeat had it not been for the heroics of keeper Chris Jay.
He leapt into action on nine minutes to turn a Vijay Sidhu effort around the post before Adam Cooper sent a header just wide of the Stourport goal.
The goal came on 63 minutes. Martin Thompson drilled a low ball into the Swifts area and Colwell turned it into his own net past the unlucky Jay.
Duncan Willetts had a chance to draw the home side level on 75 minutes but sent his shot high over the woodwork.
Four minutes later and Jay produced another good save, this time to deny Thompson, and continued to thwart the visitors with a string of stops in the closing stages.
He did well to keep out a long-range Craig Dutton drive and also managed to push away a chance from Ben Mackey.
With the match deep into stoppage time, Stourport substitutes Richard Burgess and Craig Marshall combined but the latter just failed to get a touch on the final cross.
Swifts: JAY 9, Smith 8, Robinson 8, Wood 7, Frost 8, Blake 7, Colwell 8, Webb 7, Willetts 7 (Broadhurst 76), Lavery 7 (Marshall 66, 7), Andrews 7 (Burgess 66, 7). Subs (not used): McComisky, Ladek.
