MANAGER Neil Hunt has hit out at midfielder Simon Fitter, who returned to Swifts' BGB Southern League Midlands Division One rivals Evesham United last week.

The midfielder returned to the club he quit only a month go after the league leaders put in a seven-day transfer request last week.

The Swifts boss admitted Fitter's return to Evesham had came as a complete surprise.

"Apparently, Simon spoke to Evesham's manager before our game at Rushall and they put a seven-day request in for him," said Hunt.

"To be honest if a player hasn't had the courtesy to be up front with me about what's going on I don't want him here.

"We only want players who are committed to the club."

The club suffered another blow on Saturday as their five-game unbeaten run came to an end when they lost 2-1 to Barton Rovers.

New signing Shane Gill put the Walshes Meadow side ahead when he sent a looping effort over the keeper from 18 yards after the visitors failed to clear Richard Tomkins' corner.

He almost struck again moments later when he skipped through the Barton defence only to be foiled by the legs of visiting keeper Martin Pitching.

Former England under-21 striker Tony Thorpe grabbed a 34th-minute equaliser, eluding his marker to slot the ball home from close range.

Gill showed his class on the stroke of half-time but the upright came to Rovers' rescue.

The second half saw the visitors take a grip on the game and although they were denied by the woodwork early on, former Fulham forward Thorpe claimed his second of the game on 55 minutes to wrap up the points for the Bedfordshire side.

Despite the loss Swifts are in no danger of getting relegated as only one side will go down this season and bottom side Berkhamstead trail them by 19 points.

It means that Hunt is able to plan for next season and continue to guide Swifts away from the wrong end of the table.
