Swifts beaten by ten-man Town
Cinderford Town 1
Stourport Swifts 0
Stourport's hopes of bouncing back from their Worcester Infirmary Cup exit were dashed by a goal early in the second half of this mid-table tussle.
Jason Price fired the Forest of Dean outfit into a 49th minute lead when his low shot swept past visiting keeper Chris Jay.
There had been little to choose between the sides before the break although Stourport always looked likely to threaten with midfield pair Craig Webb and Richard Colwell in impressive form.
But after falling behind, Swifts almost conceded another soon after when dangerman Price found space only to fire wide of the target.
The visitors pushed for a way back into contention and twice went close in the latter stages.
Will Gayton and Richard Burgess combined on each occasion but the latter put his initial effort wide and then sent another shot over the crossbar 15 minutes from time.
Cinderford's task was made all the more tricky when they were reduced to ten men on 78 minutes, striker Steve Cowe receiving his marching orders after collecting a second yellow card.
But they succeeded in keeping Swifts at bay and manager Neil Hunt will be hoping his side can return to winning ways when welcome Romulus to Walshes Meadow on Saturday.
Swifts: Jay 8, Smith 7, Robinson 7, Wood 7, Charles 6 (McComiskey 55, 7), WEBB 9, Colwell 8, Jukes 6 (Lavery 75), Burgess 7 (D Williams 82), Gill 8, Gayton 7. Subs (not used): C Williams, Gray.
