Missed chances costly for Swifts

Bedworth United 1
Stourport Swifts 0

Stourport's disappointing league form continued at The Oval where an Adam Kinder goal handed their Warwickshire hosts a narrow victory.

And it means Swifts have gone five league games without a win, picking up just a solitary point during that barren spell.

Missed chances have been their downfall of late and that was again the case at Bedworth when striker Shane Gill squandered a golden opportunity inside three minutes. A mistake by Ben Thackery allowed the frontman in on goal but, after rounding the keeper, he miscued his shot wide of the target.

Stourport were in total control at this point and Gill had a chance to make amends for his earlier miss when, just moments later, he drilled in another effort only for keeper Andy Kemp to deny him with an excellent save.

The only goal of the game came on 28 minutes. Kinder broke free to collect a loose ball before skirting around Chris Jay in the Stourport goal and tapping home.

Defences were on top in the second half with the home side having a penalty appeal turned down when Amin Verna was challenged by Swifts skipper Nathan Jukes.

Swifts: Jay 8, Wood 7, Robinson 7, Jukes 6 (Smith 75), Charles 6, Gayton 7, D Williams 7 (Roberts 46, 7), L Tomkins 8, GILL 9, Lavery 8, R Tomkins 6 (Graham 63, 7). Subs (not used): Colwell, McComiskey.
