KIDDERMINSTER pool cue queen Sarah Nicklin surprised herself and delighted her supporters by winning the Champion of Champions National Finals in Great Yarmouth.

The 35-year-old battled through a high quality field to clinch the silverware for the first time.

Nicklin had reached the tournament by coming through two regional qualifiers to be part of the final 32 competiting in the event.

Wins over Anne Middleton, Julie Mackintosh and Shelly Wood saw her power into the last four, where she defeated England player Lyndsey Roberts 5-1.

In the final, Nicklin then defeated Stacey Hancock 5-1.

She is a member of the Cajun Chicken Baguette team, who play in the Cue and Brew pub on Prospect Hill.

Nicklin was cheered on a large contingent of supporters from the Kidderminster and District Pool League.

Even more were backing her as they watched the final via a live internet broadcast.

Nicklin, who is a midwife at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, said: “I cannot believe I have won, it has not settled in.

“You would not have got very good odds on me winning the competition.

“I have suffered a bit from nerves in the past but everyone has believed in me.

“The support I had from the guys in Great Yarmouth and back home was incredible and I could not have done it without them.”
