Nutland and Horton shine

HALFWAY through the Kidderminster and District League’s 2012-13 season and Harriers B are continuing to set the pace at the top of Division One.

The Aggborough-based team have a 100 per cent record and have benefited from being able to regularly play Adam Nutland, currently ranked number 37 in England. Both he and Steve Horton are undefeated for Harriers B.

Hot on their heels, however, are newcomers Bromley whose only loss in eight matches has been to Harriers B.

Promoted side Broadheath Belters are a respectable fifth with talented junior Michael Siket having lost only twice to date.

At the other end of the table Cookley B find themselves in a relegation scrap with Harriers C and Jim’s Gym A.

In Division Two, the pace-setters are Jim’s Gym B who remain undefeated. Dan Jones, with only three defeats, heads the divisional averages for the Gym.

Hartlebury are second, with veteran Eric Calver still proving a difficult customer, and promoted side Holy Trinity are third.

Cookley D find themselves bottom of the table at the halfway stage but may yet be able to get themselves out of trouble.

In Division Three, Harriers I are in pole-position but three teams from Bewdley are close behind.

Mark Edwards, of Bewdley Cricket Club, is the only undefeated regular player in the league, while Brian Hill, of Bewdley Institute A, has one loss from 18 matches.

The youngsters of Cookley E prop up the table but were cheered by recording their first victory of the season prior to Christmas against a weakened Harriers J.

Meanwhile, Cookley staged a very successful Christmas party/tournament which attracted nearly 50 players and parents. A similar event is being lined up for the summer.
