Not so fab four for sorry Stourport

STOURPORT Ladies suffered a sobering 4-0 defeat at Barnes Hounslow Ealing when they resumed their Investec National Conference West League campaign.

A promising start by the visitors saw Sade Gerald win a short corner in the opening exchanges, but they failed to make the most of this opportunity and Barnes struck back to score when a shot deflected in off the post.

Barnes took a 2-0 lead into the interval when they scored from a short corner and extended that advantage further following an effective counter attack.

Stourport’s disappointment was complete when Barnes made it 4-0 from another short corner routine.

To make matters worse, Stourport skipper Katie Miller was given a green card with three minutes remaining to put the seal on a sorry show.

Stourport will look to bounce back on Saturday when they travel to Bristol-based Firebrands.

The seconds fared much better as they beat Edgbaston 5-1 in the Midlands Feeder West where Bethan Merriman and Kerry Walker both netted twice.

They will look to build on this success when they host Birmingham University this week The thirds lost 5-1 to Bromsgrove firsts in Worcestershire Women’s League Division One.

A poor first-half showing saw Stourport trail 4-0 at the break, before Alison Baron pulled a goal back.

The fourths drew 2-2 with Old Silhillians Seconds in Division Two where Louise Bagnall and Eleanor Johnson were on target.
