Nine is fine for rampant

WYRE Forest Phoenix Ladies cruised into the Three Counties Cup final as they defeated Shropshire outfit Hanwood Saints 9-0.

The game was played in wintry wet conditions on the King Charles I School’s 4G pitch.

The goals came with hat-tricks from both Kirsty Jones and Kirsty Roberts, and other efforts from Bex Meredith, Chelsea Mudge and Tracy Evans.

Hanwood were in great form for the first 20 minutes and were the team applying all the pressure and creating the better chances.

However, the arrival of substitute Eleni Popadopollous changed the game as she created the opening two goals for Jones and Roberts.

Meredith scored a fine third goal as Wyre Forest marched into half-time with a 3-0 lead.

In the second period, Jones and Roberts and grabbed two more to give Wyre Forest a commanding lead before and Mudge and Evans finished the scoring to set up a final against either Hereford Pegasus or Leominster.

The under-16s saw off Pershore Town 5-0 to move into the final of the Stourbridge and District League.

An Eilidh Shakespeare brace and strikes from Laura Brennan, Kathryn Baylis and Poppy Archer fired Phoenix into the league showpiece match.

Phoenix’s under-17s are top of the Stourbridge and District Cup League after seeing off Stourbridge Town 2-1, with Molly Maguire on target and an own goal making all the difference.
