BEWDLEY karting sensation Tom Rawlings made a strong start to the new season as he grabbed third place in Shennington at the weekend.

The 11-year-old recovered from a difficult start in heat one, where a crash on the first corner saw him fall to the back.

But he battled hard and finished eighth, setting the fastest lap in the process.

In heat two, the Hagley RC School pupil started fifth on the grid but leapt to the front on lap two before dropping to third.

That was enough to secure his a fifth place grid spot in the final and he once again made a strong start, leaping to third on the second lap.

He was forced to battled hard but ensured a podium spot in a race where the top three drivers were separated by just two tenths of a second.
