Coaching event for Valley cyclists

THREE youngsters from Severn Valley Velo took part in the British Cycling youth training activity, which was held over six weeks on Stourport Sports Club’s track.
Bryn Thomas, Kaleb Dorrell and Curtis Ablitt not only braved the bitterly cold conditions on the outdoor sessions but had the opportunity of improving their skills on the rollers during the indoor session.
Excellent coaching was provided by British Cycling from Tim Buckle, Olympic talent team coach, Nick Yarworth, West Midlands regional development manager and Craig Ansell, West Midlands go-Ride coach.
During the the sessions the youngsters gained experience and knowledge of cycle racing skills and preparation as well being exposed to rigorous physical training exercises.
Severn Valley Velo coaches will be collaborating with Wyre Forest District Council and British Cycling in promoting and delivering cycling development in two courses for youngsters during the school holidays.
Each course will comprise of four consecutive three hour sessions at Stourport Sports Club, the first one starting onTuesday, April 2, followed by the second on August 6.
Jenny Bateman and Sean Burford attended the young volunteers workshop which was part of British Cycling’s Go-Ride Conference held in Leicester.
Tracey Burford and Alan Griffiths attended a coaches workshop at the same conference.
The club are currently running a series of skills and training sessions at the circuit for riders of all abilities.
