Bewdley hopes suffer setback

BEWDLEY’S promotion hopes are in jeopardy after a narrow defeat at Worcestershire League Division Two leaders Harvington.
On a difficult pitch which became progressively easier as the game went on, Bewdley’s batsmen struggled to assert themselves.
Luke Groves top-scored with 23, while Paul Beard and Robert Crane also made useful contributions, but Bewdley’s total of 134 was woefully inadequate.
However, the game produced a tight finish thanks to an inspired spell of swing bowling from Crane who was not flattered by his figures of 5-51.
Jack Mills supported him with a couple of wickets, but Harvington were able to get over the line.
Bewdley entertain Colwall on Saturday and then go to Feckenham on Monday (both 1pm start).
An under-strength Bewdley second team fought bravely against Belbroughton but ultimately came up just short despite a fine spell of bowling from James Marsh.
Asked to bat first, Bewdley were soon in trouble with the opening pair back in the pavilion.
The returning Simon Smith serenely made his way to 44 before holing out and with that Bewdley were quickly dismissed for 150.
Bewdley made early in-roads of their own, Marsh (5-61) cleaning up the opening pair with no runs on the board but Tom Raybould (54) went on the attack and effectively took the game away from Bewdley.
Despite that, Marsh continued to plug away but the wily Michael Hawk (40) guided Belbroughton to their target.
