Morrris and Hunt surrender tandem title
2:47pm Wednesday 9th October 2013 in Local
WYRE Forest CRC's tandem duo of Chris Morris and Phil Hunt were unable to retain their Duo Normand two up and tandem time trial title.
The defending tandem champions they had high hopes of repeating last year's victory around the town of Marigny in Normandy, but an interrupted training schedule over the last few weeks of preparation which although not hampering their short distance performance affected their ability to maintain a fast pace over the longer distance of 33 miles.
Although in contention for most of the race their lack of form caused them to slow in the latter stages so they had to to settle for second place. Their final time of 1hour 15minutes and 45seconds was almost half a minute slower than last year and not quick enough to beat last year's runners up who improved their time by almost four minutes.
Andy Overton and Andy Hunt enjoyed their first ride in this prestigious end of season race with a solid performance as a two up in the 3rd category race finishing 13th from 34 teams with a time of 1-21-31.
In the ladies race the pairing of Jacqui Phillips and Samantha Anderson finished sixth while Mark Phillips and Tony Muir, also riding this event for the first time, finished a creditable 36th from 105 teams in the unlicensed category.
Overall winners were the Australian and Canadian duo Luke Durbridge and Svein Tuft of the professional Orica Greenedge team who set a course record of 1hr 4min 10secs.
