Payton looks for Bewdley improvement
7:00am Thursday 17th October 2013 in Local
CRAIG Payton says his Bewdley Town side need to start winning games, starting with Saturday’s trip to struggling Bustleholme.
Town lie just two places above their hosts - fifth bottom of the West Midlands Premier League.
That is followed by a home game fourth-bottom Bilston Town on Tuesday and following a tough run of fixtures which ended with a 6-0 home drubbling by leaders Black Country Rangers Payton feels now is the time for fortunes to change.
“You could argue Saturday’s wasn’t a 6-0 because we made a few defensive mistakes but they are a good team and will be there at the end - they have the players to put the ball in the net.
“Now we have games we should be looking to win, other than Cradley and Shifnal which will be tough, but the danger for us is that Bustleholme have started to picked up with their results.
“What we have to do is get back to doing the basics right. We were playing well until we had a Saturday off a couple of weeks ago and we need to get back to that.
“We reaaly do need over the next three or four games to start pushing towards mid-table and we have to keep working and keep the confidence among the players.
“Bustleholme can be a nice little side at home, although they do have have their bad days, and we need to be aware they can definitely give you a game on their day.”
Payton will be without the services of Zac Morris who has a groin strain and is expected to be out for up to four weeks while Dan Jones is doubtful for Saturday with an ankle problem. Luke Towler is unavailable due to work commitments.
Bewdley’s Worcestershire Urn tie with Bromsgrove Sporting which was due to be played on Tuesday will now take place on Tuesday, November 12 and has been switched to Bromsgrove.
