Goss puts the gloss on Stourport success

STOURPORT Ladies moved up fifth place in the National Conference North after second half goals shot down struggling Ben Rhydding 2-0.
Goals from Katie Miller and Hannah Goss ensured a fourth win in seven games.
Although newly-promoted Rhydding had not won a game so far this season previous results indicated that they were not a team to be taken for granted.
This proved to be the case as the visitors imposed their physical, hard working approach on the hosts.
Stourport tried to play their possession game but found themselves dispossessed and susceptible to counter-attacks by their energetic opponents.
As the half continued, the visitors started to enjoy more of the play, while Stourport actually started to look dangerous on the counter attack, Lora Symonds breaking through on several occasions but found herself thwarted by the solid Ben Rhydding defence.
With the teams still goalless at the break, it was clear that the opening goal would be vitally important, and Miller provided it two minutes into the second half when she converted a short corner.
Stourport continued to probe, but they were unable to secure the comfort that a second goal would ensure them.
The hosts were awarded a short corner which Goss dispatched for her first goal of the season and secure a 2-0 victory.
The firsts have a weekend off from action.
The seconds edged out Burton’s firsts away in the Midlands Division Two thanks to Kirsty Imm’s second half effort.
Stourport’s thirds suffered a 6-0 loss at Harborne in the Worcestershire League Division One.
Kate Bailey bagged a hat-trick as the fourths defeated Worcester thirds in Division Two.
Chey West filled her boots as the sixths hammered Redditch seconds 8-0.
Hazel Claris (2) and Lorna Hawthorne (2) also scored.
