THE memory much-loved Kidderminster Harriers fan Steve Millington has been honoured with a special plaque at Aggborough.

It was unveiled by Geoff Coles, chairman of fans trust KHIST, and widow Jackie Millington during the half-time interval of the Reds’ Skrill Premier clash against Welling which Harriers won 2-0.

Millington was a popular figure with his fellow supporters and played a key role in helping the Football Conference club during their financial crisis in 2011.

“Steve was an incredibly dedicated Harriers fan who was loved by everyone, it is fantastic that his memory is being honoured this way,” said Coles.

As a prominent member of the trust his experience working at NatWest and financial knowledge helped to drive the fund-raising.

He then became chairman of the supporters’ group and played a key role in their continued success.

Despite being diagnosed with the illness in September last year and given a only few months to live, he continued to attend Harriers’ home games, with the 4-1 victory over Lincoln City on Saturday, October 19, his final match.

He died peacefully in the Primrose Unit at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital in Bromsgrove in November last year after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

The 49 walkers who tackled the 65-mile trek from Aggborough to Forest Green Rovers last week in honour of Millington were also present for the plaque presentation.

The group raised nearly £35,000 for Macmillan Cancer Research through their efforts.

The plaque was then mounted on the wall of names outside the ground near the club’s reception.
