THERE was plenty of fun and competitive action on the River Severn as Stourport Boat Club hosted their successful Works Fours Challenge on Saturday.

More than 60 teams made a splash in four divisions, with a crew called DRP 3, representing Hartlebury-based DRP Group, winning the grand final.

The tournament, sponsored by Concept Furnishings, saw boats manned by local firms and groups in action.

DRP 3 crew captain, Adam Bannister, commented: “We’ve had an amazing day, and to be the holders of the Works Fours trophy for a year gives us great bragging rights for a good while yet.”

A crew called G&T won the women’s division, with Ocker’s Outcast’s clinching the Repechage category, while Blood Sweat and Beers were first in the pubs and clubs section.

But it was the Outcasts and DRP 3 who met in the trophy-deciding race.

Winning through their semi-finals, Ocker’s Outcasts faced DRP 3 in the final of the 400 metres upstream course.

In dramatic style, the Outcasts had been tracking the leading crew through to the half way stage, chasing down the leading boat to come up alongside.

Racing head-to-head in the final 100m of the course, DRP 3 coxed by James Hough, reached the line with a half-boat length advantage.
